How much are your musical tastes inspired by your parents?
For me the answer is– a lot. Don’t get me wrong, my tastes are eclectic from classical to jazz to rock. I grew up in the 70′s and still love The Carpenters, Judy Collins and Simon & Garfunkel.
Still, I have a secret delight for music of the 30′s and 40′s. Bing Crosby, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman were all favorites of my parents. I grew up listening to their extensive collection of 78s.
My favorite love song of all time is “Moonlight Becomes You.” Have you heard it? Bing sings it when he first lays eyes on Dorothy Lamour in “Road to Mor0cco“.
They really don’t make’em like that anymore.
The big downside to loving my parents’ music is that I run a risk of being mistaken for an octagenarian before my time. They were more than 30 years older than me.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s worth it. It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing.

I don’t think my music taste is very influenced by my parents, although I do have The Carpenters, Simon & Garfunkel and Bing Crosby on my iTunes.
